Major components
The main components of automatic temperature control are:
Sensors
Sensor supply input data to the controller. Some examples of sensors include sun load sensor, outside temperature sensors, coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor and in-car temperature sensor.
Control panel
A control panel is located in the instrument panel at a convenient place to allow the driver and passengers to input controls to the temperature control system. Usually, the control head has microprocessors to provide input data to the operator depending selected conditions.
Output device
Puts signal from sensors into action. They include electric motors and vacuum solenoid
Controller
It is the brain behind the computerized automatic temperature control. A controller is also known as a programmer. It provides output signals to determine blower speed and close or open heat water valve among other functions.
Other common devices include power modules, clutch diode, low pressure switch, aspirator and water valve actuator.
Computerized ATC system contains other components such as duct work, blower motor and refrigeration system.

Tri-zone and quad-zone allow passengers in the back seat to control temperatures in their area. Passengers in the rear seat get better quality air by using recirculation and rear ventilation option.
Ultra-luxury cars feature state of the art automatic air control systems. For instance, some have a rear cabin air conditioning with front and rear controls for speed and temperature. Newer car models come with a touch screen panel using an automatic air conditioner.
