Catalytic converter reduces the amount of hazardous gases in the exhaust.
Oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. The engine control unit uses the information to determine if the engine is running lean or rich. If the ECU detects any deviation, it makes the necessary adjustments in the amount of fuel and air sent to the engine.
The muffler ensures that exhaust gases do not produce too much noise as they leave the system. Mufflers damp the escaping gases and engine noise. Otherwise, the noise would be loud creating distraction. Some mufflers have resonator embedded in them to reduce exhaust noise further.
Exhaust gases use exhaust pipe to exit the system.
Exhaust manifold links engine cylinders and the exhaust pipes. It is attached to the engine block. It collects gases coming from the combustion process and redirects them to the exhaust pipes. The exhaust manifold is made from cast iron enabling it to withstand high temperatures. A gasket is used to seal it hence preventing exhaust gases from flowing to other parts of the car.

After leaving the converter, it then travels through another exhaust pipe, to the muffler and then to tailpipe or resonator. The gases are then released through the rear of the vehicle, safely. The engine combustion produces condensation. So you may see water coming from the tailpipe once in a while.
