Single Exit Pipe Exhaust System
As the name implies, this exhaust system uses a single exhaust pipe. They are the most common exhaust systems because they are cheapest to manufacture and install. However, some exhaust systems are more efficient than single exit pipe. The pipe exit is usually on the passenger side of the car.
Dual Rear Exit Exhaust Systems
This exhaust system is mostly found on sport cars. It targets buyers who want to have sporty sounding and looking rides. It gives the car exhaust a deeper note making the engine sound more powerful. They do a better job expelling exhaust gases than the single exit systems. The pipes do not bend like in other exhaust systems.
Opposite Dual Exhaust
Opposite dual exhaust is a variant of dual rear exhaust system. The difference is that opposite dual exhaust system wrap around the car wheels. The bend improves the efficiency of the filtering process. The exhaust system is used in vehicles that tow huge loads.
Dual Side Exhaust
These systems comprise of two exhaust pipe attached side by side on one side of the vehicle. By using two pipes, the systems prove to be more efficient. In addition, they produce deeper sound since the pipes are a little bit smaller than single exhaust systems. In fact, their sound and appearance are almost similar to high-performance systems. Dual side exhaust systems provide enhanced performance.
High-performance sound systems
High-performance exhaust system filters exhaust gases efficiently. However, they are quite expensive compared to the other exhaust systems. This system is not standard, so you have to fit it as an aftermarket product. They increase car performance and efficiency. Ideally, the wider pipe reduces pressure increasing the performance of the engine. Most people are reluctant to install this type of exhaust system because of the high cost and fact that it involves changing the manifold.
Choosing an aftermarket exhaust system
Sometimes you may need to upgrade or replace an exhaust system. The main types of aftermarket exhaust systems include cat back, axle back and header back. Most aftermarket systems will come with muffler, tailpipes and catalytic converter.
Header-back systems will replace everything including the tailpipes and header. Cat back exhaust systems replace exhaust components up to the catalytic converter. This means that they replace the tailpipe and muffler. Axle back exhaust system replaces the entire component between rear axles to the exhaust tip.
An exhaust system is crucial in the overall optimum performance of your vehicle. A bad exhaust system will affect your car performance. You should take utmost care of the exhaust system. Should you need to revamp it, go for sturdy, tip-top aftermarket exhaust system.
