Valve Body
A transmission valve body is a vital part of a transmission. A vehicle transmission system sends engine power to other parts of the system. Transmission valve body works in tandem with a transmission computer to regulate a flow of transmission fluid to other transmission valves. Transmission valve consists of different types of valve each with a unique function. For instance, a 4-3 shift valve is used to downshift from 4th gears to 3rd gear.

The valve body is controls transmission shifting. The valve body has channels that direct hydraulic fluid valves to allow shifting gears as needed. Valve body uses transmission fluid to engage a clutch pack or band servo when shifting to the necessary gear.
Types of Valve Body
There are two types of a transmission valve body, an electronic valve body and hydraulic valve body. While the electronic valve body uses an electronic system, the hydraulic valve body uses hydraulic pressure.
Transmission valves also control the valves such as shift valve and manual valve. Shift valves help to shift gear one lever higher. That’s why when the valve body is faulty your gears will have problems making a jump up or down. This leads to hard shifting or vehicle holding the gear much longer.
In addition, if your vehicle’s transmission has a worn out valve body, the transmission valve will not have enough pressure to enter the appropriate valves. As a result, you may experience shifting problems which will hinder your driving ability.
Several signs can notify you when your transmission valve body is bad. These symptoms include:
Shifting delay
The transmission will take some time to recognize shift when you use a stick shift to change gears.
Downshifting problem
A damaged valve body will make it hard to downshift if your car is using a manual transmission. This happens when the valve body fails to receive transmission fluid. Without fluid in the valve body, there won’t be pressure in gears.
Slippage when shifting gears
Shifting gears is supposed to be a smooth process. However, if you have a bad valve body, you will experience slippage as you use shifting stick to change gears. Slippage is not only annoying but can pose a driving hazard as well.
Poor performance
If you gears keep dropping high to low as you drive, you may be having a bad valve body. You will have trouble maintaining a consistent speed or speeding up. Generally, you will have a car that will perform poorly on the road.
Unusual sound
If your car gears produce a banging sound as you change gears, your transmission valve body you probably have a damaged valve body. While other issues may cause this symptom, possibility of a faulty transmission valve should not be disregarded.
